2009 O’Pen BIC Mid-Winters
“The Un-Regatta Mid-Winters”
Proud part of the Alex Caviglia Bluewater Classic

Presented By

**NOTICE OF RACE**

Important Event Introduction: The purpose of this event is to showcase a new format for Youth Sailing in a fun, unorthodox, and loosely competitive style. This format has already proven popular at the U.S. O’Pen Cups at New Bedford Community Sailing and Sail Newport, and at the “Un-Regatta Mid Winters at Shake-A-Leg Miami in 2009. Results are not nearly as important as everyone having a good time sailing. Don’t expect conventional round the buoys racing or normal 1-2-3 prizes. Capsizes and freestyle and fun will be required. If you are a hard-core racer with rule book in hand, this event may not be for you. If you want to just have fun and pioneer a new chapter in Youth Sailing….. game on!

ORGANIZING AUTHORITY: Shake A Leg Miami, the Blue Water Caviglia Foundation, and BIC Sport North America

1. Rule Number One:
1.1 All sailors are required to participate in the spirit of fun at all times. Violators of Rule Number One will be publicly embarrassed.

2. Other Rules:
Starboard tack has right away over port tack.
When capsizes or freestyle moves are required, you must make sure you are clear of all other sailors when you make the maneuver, and don’t interfere with or immediately obstruct other sailors.
Competitors shall remain on or near their vessels at all times.
Minor contact of the marks of the course is permitted. Contact that causes any damage, or the location of the mark to change or drag, is not permitted.
Hitting the Race Committee boat or start boat is prohibited.
Pumping: Pumping is not allowed except when conditions exist for planning or surfing, and only then to promote that activity. The Race Committee will fly a flag (type to be described in Sailing Instructions) when such conditions exist.
This event will be decided on the water and not in the protest room. It is the responsibility of every competitor to sail in a manner that is fair and with due respect of their fellow competitor, so that the results are a valid reflection of true sailing ability. Absolutely no intentional contact is permitted. Protests will only be accepted in unusual or extreme circumstances.
It is the intention of the Organizing Authority that further enforcement of the rules will not be needed. However, if necessary or in doubt, the standard ISAF Racing Rules of sailing shall apply for anything not outlined above. The ISAF Rules are readily available on www.sailing.org.
