Sailing Programs

Intro to Sail
This 16 hour class is for beginners with little or no sailing experience and is a great way to acquire an understanding of the sport. Topics include terminology, boat handling, and safety. Classes generally begin the first Saturday of each month and run for four consecutives Saturdays from 9:30am – 1:30pm. This class features both classroom instruction and extensive on the water training. Taught on Catalina 20s with a maximum of four students per boat. No prerequisites.

Intermediate Sail
This 16 hour class is for those who have completed the Introductory class or have previous sailing experience. This course expands upon topics covered in the Introductory course and introduces more advanced topics such as anchoring and reefing. Classes generally begin the first Saturday of each month and run for four consecutives Saturdays from 9:30am – 1:30pm. This class features both classroom instruction and extensive on the water training. Taught on Catalina 20s with a maximum of three students per boat. Prerequisite: Intro to Sail or previous experience.

PowerBoat Programs

US PowerBoat Certification
This 16 hour nationally recognized course will give you the confidence and the skills to handle small motor craft comfortably and safely. Topics include docking, safety, anchoring, and high speed maneuvers. Taught to national standards on a variety of vessels 18 to 23 feet, you will receive a nationally recognized USPowerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification upon successful completion of the program. This course generally takes place on consecutive Sundays from 9am – 5pm, but we can modify course hours to work around your schedule.

Group Outings and Team Building

Accessible Outings
Shake-A-Leg Miami offers accessible sailing, kayaking and powerboat excursions for groups of ten or more. Each two to three hour activity is guided by our trained staff or volunteers. Groups must include an appropriate number of chaperones for the population. Reservations required.

Corporate Team Building
Develop your staff into a real team! During this five hour program, your group will first learn the basics of sailing and competitive racing. Later they will work together in small groups be the fastest sailors on the Bay during a private regatta hosted by Shake-A-Leg Miami. Skills acquired include effective communication, team work, and problem solving. Kayaking and orienteering based activities are also available.

Group Introduction to Kayak
Learn paddling techniques, capsize recovery, and other skills while seeing your local waters up close! Four consecutive Saturdays from 10am to noon throughout the year. Dress to be wet! No Discounts.
