Youth Program (Ages 7-17; September thru May)

Classes are for ages 7-17 and maintain a 1:6 Instructor/Student Ratio.
Membership is required to register. Annual Social Membership is only $50.
All Classes can be offered on alternate dates or as private lessons $40/hr with a 2 hour minimum.

Introduction to Sailing
This class teaches the basic sailing fundamentals starting with familiarizing the student with the boat and its parts, and introduces the skills of rigging, steering, tacking, knot tying, points of sail and of course, safety.
Potential Certification: SALM Beginner Sailor Certificate

Youth Intermediate sailing
s class moves up to Sunfish where the student hones their steering, tacking, jibing, and sail trim skills, more knots, and points of sail.

Prerequisite: SALM Beginner Sailor Certificate, Previous Experience, Swimmer

This class continues Sunfish where the student learns capsize recovery, begins navigation skills, and works with a variety of sailboats,

Youth Intro to Kayak
Kayaking is the best way to explore our bountiful and beautiful South Florida aquatic paradise! Learn the basic paddle strokes, boat dynamics, and safety skills to be able kayak comfortably and confidently in our canals, lakes, and coastal waters! The third day is Adventure Kayak trip to test what you’ve learned.

Shake A Leg Miami Racing Team (Sailing and Windsurfing)
Join the most unique and fun racing team anywhere! Whether you are looking for the thrill of competition or just want to hone your skills and have fun with your friends the SALM Racing Team is for everyone. You will get 9 hours of supervised practice with our US Sailing Certified Instructors and compete in a regatta on the last day of each 4 day course.
Potential Certification(s): US Sailing Small Boat Sailor Certification (Red Book), US Sailing Performance Sailor (Green Book)
Prerequisite: Intermediate Sailor Certificate, Intermediate Windsurfer Certificate, or Skill Assessment.
Boats used: 2.3 Access Dinghy, Sunfish, Laser Radial, Megabyte, Freedom 20, Fanatic Windsurf boards rigs.
Next Step: US Sailing and ASA Keelboat certification courses (some age requirements apply)

US Power Boating Course: - (ages 12-17)
This nationally recognized program will give you the confidence and the skills to operate a variety of motor craft comfortably and safely while under Certified Instructor supervision. We offer on-the-water training with classroom that provides a well rounded knowledge boat and handling and seamanship including safety, navigation, and rules of the road. Prepares students to challenge certification when they become 16 years old. (COMING SOON!)

Learn To Sail Summer Camp
The coolest Summer Camp in South Florida!!! This 8 week day camp set on beautiful Biscayne Bay teaches students how to sail and gives them well rounded knowledge and experience of boating and seamanship while having loads of Fun! Students will learn and gain experience on boat dynamics and handling, tacking and jibing, sail trim, navigation, wind dynamics and weather, and safe boating skills through Dinghy and keelboat Sailing, Windsurfing, and Kayaking in an amazing environment.
Potential Certification(s): SALM Beginner Sailor Certificate, SALM Intermediate Sailor Certificate, US Sailing Small Boat Sailing (Red Book), US Sailing Performance Sailor (Green Book), Basic Kayak Certificate, Adventure Paddler Certificate, Beginner Windsurfer Certificate, Intermediate Windsurfing.

Youth Group Outings
Take your class, youth group, or sports team on a 2 hour outing on beautiful Biscayne Bay! We offer fun and educational trips sailing, kayaking, outrigger, and motor cat rides. Take the Eco Island Challenge!
Prerequisites: Liability forms signed by parent/guardian. MDCPS requires students must be swim tested by county. Kayaking requires a minimum swim ability and/or level comfort in water and boats.

Equipment Rentals: Kayaks $10/hour; Sunfish $15/hr; Freedom 20 $100/4 hrs; Windsurf rigs $25/hr Youth Renters must be accompanied by an adult (18 or older) and may require a skill level checkout.
