Adults Program (Ages 18 and Older)
Classes at our Coconut Grove waterfront location are for ages 17-80.
Membership is required to register. Annual Social Membership begins at only $50.
All Classes can be offered on alternate dates or as private lessons @ $50/hr with a 2 hour minimum

Sailing Programs
Intro to Sail – This 16 hour class is for those with little or no sailing experience and is a great way to acquire an understanding of the sport. Groups form the first Saturday of each month (except August & Dec) for four hours starting at 9:30 am and meet for four consecutive weeks. On the water experience each class. Taught on Freedom 20s with a maximum of four students per boat. No prerequisites.

Intermediate Sail – This 16 hour class is for those who have completed the Introductory class or have previous sailing experience, to expand their knowledge with more advanced topics such as anchoring, single handing, reefing, and more. Groups form the first Saturday of each month (except August & Dec) for four hours starting at 9:30 am for four consecutive weeks. Taught on Catalina 20s with a one-to-two student to instructor ratio. Prerequisite: Intro to Sail or previous experience.

ASA 101/US Keelboat Certification – This intense 24 hour course follows both the USSailing and ASA curriculum and culminates in either certification through a separate test for each one - both are recognized worldwide. Taught on a variety of keelboats. Precursor to both USSail and ASA Bareboat and Cruising courses. Meets every month on the first weekend Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday all day. Prerequisite: Intermediate Sail class or extensive sailing experience.

ASA 103 Cruising Certification – This fun course follows the ASA curriculum and culminates in a certification recognized worldwide. Taught on a Beneteau 31. Precursor to ASA Bareboat courses. Meets every month on the second weekend Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday all day. Prerequisite: ASA Keelboat certification.

ASA 104 Bareboat Certification – This is the advanced course of the ASA curriculum and includes a Bareboat Charter certification. Taught on a Beneteau 31. Meets every month on the third weekend Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday all day. Includes 1 overnight. Prerequisite: ASA Cruising certification.

ASA 105 Coastal Navigation Certification – This course teaches use of common navigation equipment and tools. Meets every month on the last weekend Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday in the afternoon. Classroom only.

ASA/US Certification Challenges – Taught by ASA or USSailing Instructors, these challenges will include both on-the-water tests and classroom exams to be certain that candidates meet the skill level required by the certification they are seeking. Scheduled as sufficient candidates apply.

PowerBoat Programs
US PowerBoat Certification – This 16 hour nationally recognized course will give you the confidence and the skills to handle small motor craft comfortably and safely. Taught to USPB & NASBLA standards on a variety of vessels 13 to 23 feet over 4 consecutive Sundays from 1pm to 5 pm, every month. Graduates can drive “Safety Boat” for SALM programs & events.

US PowerBoat Instructor Certification – Taught by our inhouse USPowerBoat Instructor Trainer, this three day class/examination culminates in certification to teach USPowerBoat’s basic classes (see above). Scheduled as sufficient candidates apply.

USCG Licensing – Operator of UnInspected Passenger Vessels – Sea School, one of South Florida’s premier training facilities, in conjunction with SALM, offers OUPV training at our facility here in Coconut Grove several times per year.

College Credit Courses

Adult Outings
ADA Outings: SALM offers trips to special groups of up to 20 adults for either sailing, kayaking or a powerboat ride, Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 am to 4pm. Each two hour activity is $12 per person; groups must pre-qualify, and each group must include an appropriate number of chaperones. Adult Group Outings: SALM can host an Adult Group for sailing, kayaking or a powerboat ride, Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 am to 4pm. Each two hour activity is $20 per person; reservations and deposits are required two weeks in advance.

Group Introduction to Kayak: learn paddling techniques, how to right yourself, and see the local waters up close! Every other Saturday morning from 10am to noon throughout the year. Dress to be wet! No Discounts,

CPR and/or First Aid/AED: Offered in conjunction with the American Heart Association these 2 year certificates may help you save a life. Required for most certifications (USS, USPB, ASA, USCG). Each module is 4 hours; 1st & 3rd Tuesday evenings, offered every month.

Yoga Classes – Get healthy while enjoying the sunset over Biscayne Bay. Tues & Thurs at 6:00, September thru May, our yoga group meets on the 3rd floor. We have mats; dress appropriately.
