Northeast winds and sunny skies greeted thirteen boats last Saturday for the first annual Shake-A-Leg Shootout fishing tournament. Nearly fifty anglers spent the day trying to outsmart our deepwater friends with over $3000 in prize money as incentive and most importantly… a year’s worth of bragging rights.
After a beautiful display of pelagic fish at the weigh-in station, the numbers were tallied and “Live Line” won first place in the “open” category with 86.5lbs. R20;Brillo PadR21; won a very close second place with 86 lbs and “Apogee” came in third with 83.5 lbs. In the “sailfish” category, “Team Priceless” won first prize with five fish caught. As a perfect ending to a great tournament, most of the prize money was donated back to Shake-A-Leg to support our new fishing program. All in all, we raised over $12,000, every dollar of which will fund a new program teaching wounded veterans, disabled and underserved future fisher-people the skills to catch dinner.
Congratulations to Graham and John on a successful tournament and thank you all so much for your support and enthusiasm. We offer special thanks to our individual donors, silent auction donors and our corporate sponsors, Hopkins Carter, Baptist Health, ATP, TUUCI, The Tape Depot and MOD Development. Keep fishing and we’ll see you next year for the 2nd annual Shake-A-Leg Shootout.
