Weekday Wonders
After school, Monday through Friday from September through May.
$100 per week / scholarships based on need.

It’s a fact: kids hate homework. Except when they do it here. Volunteers and staff offer one-on-one assistance to get it done and to make it stick. Learning and fun continue through sailing, outrigger canoe trips, science labs, making movies, and other activities. Not to mention healthy snacks and even healthier doses of friendship and laughter.

Super Saturdays
9:30am – 1:30pm, 14 Saturdays from September to April.

If there’s anything kids hate more than homework, it’s tests. Every Saturday, Shake-A-Leg kids work with adults to see just how they’re doing, so not only do they pass the FCATs, their grades shoot up, too. As with all Shake-A-Leg Miami programs, the emphasis is on science, reading, and writing. Biscayne Bay functions as a second classroom; water sports and the Florida sun help make the learning fun.

On Track for Success – Marine Technical Studies
Two days a week, 10am – 2 pm on a project-by-project basis

Currently working with Coral Gables High School and Dade Marine Institute In a natural extension to their lessons, Shake-A-Leg Miami is developing a track program designed to find employment in the marine industry. We have enlisted industry partners to define needs and to assist us in designing an educational framework to ensure that our students have the right skills to perform in a variety of positions. Students are currently in the process of restoring two boats and learning an array of skills which will someday translate into lucrative and meaningful careers: marine mechanics, fiberglass technician, marine carpenter, yacht painting and more.  Interested educators please contact us at 305.858.5550, ext 104.

Summer Camp 2008
8-weeks, 9am – 3pm, Mondays through Fridays.
$500 per 2 week sessions. Scholarships based on need.

Kids jumpstart the school year through Place Based Learning, i.e., Biscayne Bay is their classroom. On our research vessel, in sailboats, kayaks and canoes, on the eco-islands and in our classrooms, kids learn about marine science, ecology, boating skills, and the natural history of Florida. At the same time, they meet adults and other kids from all walks of life as they learn to respect others and, equally important, to respect themselves. Register or learn more about Summer camp.
