Our Sponsors & Partners

The Shake-A-Leg Miami Water Sports Center is operated in conjunction with the City of Miami’s Department of Parks and Recreation. Dade County voters through the Trust for Safe Neighborhood Bond Fund is subsidizing these expanded facilities. Additional operating and scholarship funding is made possible by many generous individuals, corporations, and foundations.

The City of Miami and Shake-A-Leg formed an innovative public/private partnership to develop our universally accessible and Community Aquatic Center on unused city park land. The partnership’s latest endeavor is the rehabilitation of five spoil islands in Biscayne Bay and the creation of accessible park and picnic areas for the public called the Eco Island project.  City of Miami

The Florida Department of Education, 21st Century Community Learning Centers has supported Shake-A-Leg Miami Saturday and Summer programs for the past five years. The Federal Department of Education noted SALM as a model program that accomplishes the mutual goal of providing academic enrichment opportunities for children, particularly high-poverty students who attend low performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children. Royal Caribbean's sponsorship of SALM goes directly to marine conservation and activities that cover research, education and innovative technologies. Our experiential education, science enrichment and bay exploration have been furthered by the Royal Caribbean International /Celebrity Cruise Lines' Ocean Fund through a flagship vessel, curriculum and education program implementation as well as the restoration of the dinner key picnic islands of Biscayne Bay and Eco Park for the entire community to have access to. The Ocean Fund

The 40’ Corinthian Catamaran, M/V John E. Pearson, is the legacy of the late Commodore John E. Pearson. Realizing the vision of a disabled captain, Graham Hooper, this extraordinary boat has been customized to allow adults and children with disabilities to realize their dreams. Donations to the John E Pearson Memorial Fund enable Shake-A-Leg to outfit and operate the first fully accessible boat of its kind. Donations of $5,000 or more enroll donors into the Commodores Club and continue to support the vessel as it touches the lives of so many people throughout our community.

The active collaboration of The Children’s Trust is critical to providing the dynamic youth programs during out-of-school hours at Shake-A-Leg Miami. The Trust encourages creative approaches to coordinating, integrating, and funding services across and within the areas of health, safety, and development, and promotes increased parental and community involvement on behalf of all our children. The outcomes are improved academics, self-esteem and self-efficacy of our students. The Children's Trust

The Community Conscience organization of Publix helps to open up our most precious resource and bring pleasure to shoppers, employees and everyone in the region. George Jenkins founded Publix with the spirit of giving in mind. He was once asked, "If you hadn't given away so much, how much do you think you would be worth today?" His response, without hesitation: "Probably nothing." In tribute to his shining example, Publix continues to be a corporate giving leader with innovative approaches to community involvement, health and wellness.   Publix Community Involvement

Our commitment to the success of our clients and their business is evident in the extraordinary results we deliver for them. Our commitment to our planet and to the communities in which we work can be no less. Sapient is proud to have contributed the design and the writing of the Shake-A-Leg website and to help further the goals of this extraordinary organization. Sapient

Led by John Devaney, this sponsorship shows how to double an investment. As a match sponsor, John and United Capital have supported the building and procurement of the M/V John E. Pearson, an accessible 40’ catamaran, captained easily by a person with a physical disability. Additionally, this sponsorship and vessel expanded our vocational training program.  United Capital was the presenting sponsor of the Shake-A-Leg Miami fundraiser on Friday, April 13, 2007. United Capital Markets

The Dade Community Foundation's mission is to encourage philanthropy and charitable giving by developing a pernament endowment to meet current and future emerging charitable needs. In 2006, the Dade Community Foundation partnered with Shake-A-Leg Miami to support the SALM - Charlee House program serving girls in foster care with outstanding watersports recreation activities, swim lessons and a dynamic women in the field speaker series. The program empowers girls in our community who are at-risk and connects them with strong, accessible mentors to help them build their own unique bridge toward success. Dade Community Foundation
